Serial Podcast Reaction

This previous week I have begun to watch the podcast "Serial". It is a true story about a young high school student named Hae Min Lee who was tragically murdered. Her ex-boyfriend at the time Adnan Syed was arrested for her murder, however a lot of people seem to think he is still innocent. This podcast goes through the narrators journey of figuring out what truly happened to Hae Min Lee. If I was in the position of Hae's family knowing that this podcast got this popular, I would either feel offended that this podcast is using her death for entertainment, or happy that awareness is being raised. It really depends on how you want to look at the story.

So far, I am really enjoying this podcast. It is very interesting and is almost as if it is a TV show without the visuals. The narrator does a great job allowing the audience to visualize what is going on in the story, and keeping the listeners attention. I personally enjoy listening to podcasts rather than watching a movie or reading a book for the convenience factor. You can listen to podcasts while walking to school, during work, cleaning the house etc. This way I still feel as if I am doing something productive and I am able to educate myself while getting mindless errands done! With technology now a days, millions of podcasts are at the click of a button in your hand which is why I generally gravitate towards them. This podcast is a very interesting way to represent investigative journalism that I have never heard of before. This form will reach a wider audience because generally people would rather listen to a podcast then read a journal.

Koening opens up the podcast talking about how it is very hard for people to remember the exact events minute by minute in a day from a long time ago. For example if I asked you now to tell me everything you did last Wednesday would you be able to? Not only everything you did, everything and everyone you saw? How you felt? It is difficult for anyone. Now imagine having to do this for a murder case. If I was in this position, especially without the use of technology, I would most likely not be able to recall my day. This raises the issue in this podcast that some of the stories people are telling may be inaccurate, although I believe Koening did a god job of recognizing this.
